Mayflower

The Mayflower Project is a not for profit organisation set up with the aim of making the festival environment in the UK a safer and more engaging place for teenagers. To that end we offer spaces and activities for teenagers at music festivals and events across the country with a focus on ensuring teenagers are engaged and entertained in a safe and stimulating environment.

The Mayflower Project

The Mayflower Project is a not for profit organisation that has developed organically out of the managers' wealth of experience at festivals, in kids areas, care work and mental health settings.

Equipment we use

We have our own marquee with all our own equipment (sofas, cushions, blankets, a full band rig, sewing machines, circus toys, Xbox, the list goes on!) and a highly skilled and fully DBS checked crew.

Marquee

Our marquee is primarily a space for teenagers to hang out. We are there exclusively for teenagers so there's no adults (apart from our crew) and no younger kids allowed.

Since its inception, The Mayflower Project has developed organically out of the managers' wealth of experience at festivals, with children, care work and mental health settings. All of this experience leads to the high standard of service we are able to offer the teenagers we work with. We bring with us all our own equipment, policies and insurances. We have two marquees which we use as venues. We have everything required to make the space comfortable and relaxed (sofas, cushions, blankets, lighting, décor) as well as a cool place to hang out (guitars, hand drums, a full band rig, sewing machines, circus toys, games console, pool table, and more!) and a skilled and fully DBS checked crew to supervise the space.

As The Mayflower Project grew and developed we decided that as well as a space to relax we also wanted to offer activities and workshops for teenagers. We also offer a varied programme of workshops including music (jam sessions, open mic and recording), craft (lots of up-cycling and learning new skills), circus, performance, henna, hair braiding and loads more! We also have an exhibition trailer which we can use as a small stage, a workshop space and more.

Everything is offered free of charge to the teenagers so that no one is left out and we make a subtle effort to ensure all new faces are integrated and welcomed into the group. We are usually open exclusively to teenagers, so there are no adults (aside from out crew members) and no younger children allowed. This is an important part of how we make sure that the teenagers feel that the space is their own. In addition, teenagers are welcome to come in and use the space without any obligation to take part in the workshops if they don't want to!

We're developing, updating and adapting our services all the time, but right now The Mayflower Project teen tent is a safe space for teenagers to hang out, make new friends, get involved in the workshops, play music, learn new skills or just sit back and enjoy the festival atmosphere. We offer a very flexible service bringing with us anything from our micro-workshops and mini stage through our variously sized venues to all our structures together offering a full area dedicated to teenagers. We also offer a great variation in opening hours of anything from six to 14 hours per day, depending on the needs of your event and the teenagers in attendance. As a result, we're also able to offer packages which suit any budget so please be in touch to discuss how we can get involved at your event.
